Minnehaha’s Church Auction is Back!
Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 17, from 12-3 for the 2012 Church Auction! Come and bid on items you might enjoy: electronics, tools, weekend vacation to a cabin, a coupon to a restaurant, or maybe a car. Come for the door prizes – you only need to be present to win! Come for a nice lunch and enjoy the fellowship of Minnehaha UMC.
The auction is one of our largest grossing fundraisers and is dependent on items we all donate as a church. Do you have a cabin that someone might enjoy a weekend getaway? We can make a certificate. Do you have a skill that someone may use: Babysitting, tutoring, snow plowing, music lessons? We can auction those away, also. Assistance is available for picking items up. Please call Heather at the church to make the arrangements.
Pilgrimage to Ireland
9/26/2012-10-5-2012
Join us on a pilgrimage to “thin places” in Ireland. We will create community, welcoming the voice and utterance of soul. We will walk and hike the green valleys and rocky shores of this island as we are inspired by these ancient places. As a part of our pilgrimage, there will be guided writing, singing together and worship as we deepen our own soul scapes.
Hosted by Rev. Sally Johnson, Hennepin Ave. UMC, Rev. Elizabeth Macaulay, Richfield UMC and Rev. Cooper Wiggen, Minnehaha UMC September 26-October 5, 2012.

Taizé Worship
Spend a brief hour and renew your spirit with a worship service of music and meditation. Taizé Worship, based
on the teachings of Brother Roger from Taizé France, uses music with "simple" melody lines and periods of silence to quiet the soul and renew the spirit. There is no sermon, just a brief reading and a few questions to consider.
Nativity Contest Winners!

This gingerbread nativity was number one in the Edible Art category.
First Place – Edible Art Category
Our judges were wowed by this elaborate nativity created out of gingerbread and icing. They found it "especially decorative and tasteful." At the back of the stable (not visible in this photo) are the wise men following the star with their gifts for the baby Jesus. A delicious take on the Christmas story. Congratulations!

This animal-inspired nativity used actual dog fur as bedding for the baby Jesus.
First Place – Animal-inspired Category
This nativity was constructed of wood characters and animals, with added clothing and wings. The scene is beautifully created. But the added touch that thrilled the judges was the use of dog fur. "Inspired" and "Thinking out of the box" were terms they used. Congratulations!

A family worked together to create this elaborate nativity out of popsicle sticks, cotton balls, and more.
First Place – Family Category
Our judges loved the attention to detail and creativity of this nativity made from popsicle sticks, cotton balls, fabric, paper and more. "We love the detail and the colors," they said. "The scene really comes alive." This was created by a family working together, which made it all the more special. Congratulations!
Get Started for Next Year
Thanks to all who participated in this First Annual Minnehaha Nativity Contest. Winners in each category will receive a $25 Target gift card. And remember...it's not too early to start thinking about your nativity for next year. Merry Christmas!
